TOA CORPORATION (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Takeshi HAYAKAWA) was awarded a contract by Singer Bangladesh Limited (Head Office: Bangladesh), which is a subsidiary of Arcelik A.S., a major home appliance manufacturer in Turkey, for construction of a home appliance plant in Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (herein after called BSEZ). (Price not disclosed)

The construction work was to build home appliance production factory, a warehouse building, and an office on a 13.5-ha site in the BSEZ industrial park (phase 1), that opened in December last year. This will be the first factory construction project for a tenant company in the industrial park.

BSEZ is Bangladesh's first special economic zone jointly developed by Japanese and Bangladeshi public and private sectors and is built to meet the Japanese standard of land and infrastructure. In 2019, TOA received an order of JICA ODA Loans project to do land development work from Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and is now constructing a 200 ha of reclaimed land with 1.5 meters high perimeter embankment on 4 meters high landfill reclamation to prevent flooding.

As a result of the BSEZ, the country will be able to diversify its manufacturing industry into one geared toward both foreign and domestic demand, attracting more foreign companies. TOA hopes to contribute to the development of Bangladesh through the construction of this project.
